FOUND IN THE RUBBLE
One of the few things that survived the fire is Dan's and my wedding album. I haven't had a chance to peek inside, so I don't yet know the extent of damage to the photos. The writing on the outside is a copy of the invitation to our reception which was held the August after our June wedding. It reads as follows:
Alongside the Pacific Ocean
5760 Years, 9 Months, 22 Days
After the World was created,
Daniel Schwimmer and Lee Fowler
Held hands under the Huppah and
Surrounded by their families
They began their Dance of Life
Some things are worth waiting for...

JUST VISITING
In October of 1996, the spiritual leader of San Diego's Elijah Minyan, Rabbi Wayne Dosick, and his wife Ellen, lost their Carlsbad, CA home to fire. During the healing process, he wrote the book, WHEN LIFE HURTS. A story he tells in the book happened in the last century when an American tourist visited the famous Polish Rabbi, Chofetz Chaim:
The tourist was amazed to see that the rabbi's home was only a simple room filled with books. The only furniture was a narrow bed, a small table, and one straight-backed chair.
"Rabbi, where is your furniture?" asked the tourist.
The Chofetz Chaim looked at him and asked, "Where is yours?"
"Mine? But I am only a visitor here."
Said the rabbi, "So am I."
Rabbi Wayne -- thank you for this beautiful book and for your words of healing and growth. Your wisdom is a blessing to our San Diego and Jewish communities.
(By the way, Rabbi Wayne is available to speak or lead at group functions or retreats --business, community and /or religious. The book above is published by Harper San Francisco and can easily be found online.)
